In the grounds of West Brompton Cemetery, just steps from the English National Ballet school, peonies bloom each summer in extraordinary abundance. Swirling and lush, they tumble across this canvas in blush, coral, and gold — a dancer's garden, wild and unrestrained.
Painted on a larger 60×60cm canvas, Brompton Peonies has an immersive, enveloping quality. The figures within seem to emerge from the blooms themselves, as if the garden and the dance are one.
